Modern Masters Exterior Metallic Paint Collection

  • Updated

DESCRIPTION AND USES

Modern Masters Exterior Metallic Paint Collection provides a beautiful metallic look durable for exterior applications. This complete system includes two multi-surface primers, Cool and Warm Tone and 12 pre-mixed metallic paint colors. These colors can be applied by brush, roller or spray equipment to exterior architectural surfaces such as window mullions, exterior paneling and other architectural features. It’s water, mold, mildew, chemical, stain, mar, impact and UV resistant, so no additional protective top coat is needed. This product reduces the overall time and numbers of coats required to beautify and protect your project.

RECOMMENDED PRIMERS

  • Metallic Cool Tone Primer
  • Metallic Warm Tone Primer

NOTE: Metallic Paint Primers are suitable for concrete, masonry, nonferrous metal, galvanized steel, plastic, wallboard, wood, plaster, stucco, and previously coated surfaces.

COMPATIBLE PRIMERS

• Modern Masters Metallic Cool Tone Primer

• Modern Masters Metallic Warm Tone Primer

• Rust-Oleum Universal Acrylic Primer

SURFACE PREPARATION

All surfaces to be painted must be entirely free of dust, dirt, oil, grease, and other contaminants. Completely remove all loose, flaking, or chalking paint from the surfaces. Do not apply over slick or glossy surfaces. Properly prime the clean, dry surface with a primer from our Recommended Primer/Compatible Primer list and allow the surface to dry completely—preferably overnight.

NOTE: Lower temperature and higher humidity will lengthen the dry and cure times of primers.

APPLICATION

NOTE: Always test the product in a small, inconspicuous area before beginning a project to see if the desired results are attained. We recommend preparing a sample board prior to beginning a project to check color and technique. The paint should be mixed thoroughly before using.

Modern Masters Exterior Metallic Paint Collection paints can be brushed, rolled, or spray applied (See specific equipment requirements under spraying) onto any paintable, properly primed, interior or exterior surface, such as walls, ceilings, columns, trim, doors, furniture, and paintable wallcoverings. Two coats are recommended for best results.

Do not apply in temperatures below 58 °F/14 °C or above 85 °F/29 °C and surface temperature is at least 5 °F/3 °C above the dew point.

BRUSHING: Use a high-quality brush recommended for water-based paints.

ROLLING: Use a high-quality 3/8 nap roller. Thoroughly clean the roller cover before beginning the project. Work in sections, approximately 3-4 foot wide, keeping a wet-edge, cross roll to improve coverage, finishing the surface by backrolling in one direction, top to bottom. This procedure will minimize lap marks, properly orient the metallic particles and give a uniform appearance.

SPRAYING: Use a NIOSH approved respirator when spraying. Provide adequate ventilation. To spray Exterior Metallic Paint Collection paints, thin with up to 16 fluid ounces of water to one gallon of Exterior Metallic Paint Collection paints. Thin carefully, as over thinning of the paint will result in loss of hide and a reduction of the desired appearance.

Use an HVLP gun or a conventional cup gun with the fluid and air supply from a pressure pot and compressor. Air pressure at the HVLP spray gun needs to be approximately 45 psi, with greater pressures at the tank, approximately 60 psi.

NOTE: Do not use turbine-type “air compressors” to power the HVLP spray gun, and do not use airless spray systems.

TAPING: Use high quality, low-tack tape when taping over surfaces that have been previously painted with Exterior Metallic Paint. Therefore, consider cutting along the tape edge with a razor blade to avoid delaminating the fresh paint from the substrate.

TINTING: Exterior Metallic Paint Collection colors can be intermixed to create custom colors.

DRY TIMES: Recoat time is approximately 1–2 hours. Dry to touch time is approximately 30 minutes. (Drying times were recorded at 77 °F and 50%RH.)

NOTE: Lower temperature and/or higher humidity will lengthen the dry and cure times.

COVERAGE: One gallon will cover approximately 320 to 400 square feet. Approximately 1.5 mils dry film thickness per coat. A minimum of 3 mils dry film thickness is required for hide and full color development.

CLEAN UP: Clean brushes, rollers, tool, and equipment with soap and warm water immediately after use. Do not reuse containers, and properly dispose of empty containers.
