DESCRIPTION AND USES

Watco Teak Oil Finish hardens in the wood, not on the wood. Watco Teak Oil Finish is specially formulated for dense woods such as teak, mahogany, and rosewood. Unlike surface coatings, Watco penetrating oils enhance the natural look and feel of wood. It penetrates deep into wood pores to create the rich, warm glow of a hand-rubbed finish. Watco Teak Oil Finish Protects From Within®. It will not chip, peel, or wear away. It takes less than an hour to treat your wood with Watco Teak Oil Finish – simply spray it on and wipe off. Use to treat outdoor or indoor furniture and marine surfaces (above the water line) such as wood boat decks, cabinets, and rails.

Not recommended for use on patio decks, interior floors, or marine use below the waterline.

PRODUCT APPLICATION

SURFACE PREPARATION

For best results, surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of old finishes, dust, dirt, oils, or foreign matter. Sand using #150-#220 grit sandpaper and remove all sanding dust using a rag dampened with mineral spirits, or vacuum. If a filler or putty is used, make sure that it does not contain wax and allow enough time to dry thoroughly.

APPLICATION

Protect surrounding areas with a solvent resistant drop cloth covered in newspaper around the work area in case of drips, runs, and/or overspray. Protect eyes and skin, wear safety goggles and chemical resistant gloves.

Use adequate ventilation at all times. Apply only when the air and surface temperatures are above 50°F, and below 95°F. Slower dry times may result from applications on redwood, cedar, or woods with a high tannin and oil content or periods of high humidity and/or low temperatures. Test Watco Teak Oil Finish in an inconspicuous area for color before completing project. Watco Teak Oil Finish may appear milky upon application but will dry to a clear finish.

Shake can vigorously for one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. If mixing ball fails to rattle, DO NOT STRIKE CAN. Contact Rust-Oleum. Shake often during use. Hold the can 10”-16” from the surface and spray in a steady back and forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Keep the can the same distance from the surface. Keep the can in motion while spraying. Apply one coat ensuring you flood the surface with Watco Teak Oil Finish. Apply additional Finish to areas that absorb all the liquid. Allow oil to penetrate for 30 minutes. (Avoid spraying on fiberglass portion of boat. Wipe immediately and remove using a rubbing compound if fiberglass contact occurs.)

Reapply, allowing an additional 15 minutes of penetration. Wipe surface thoroughly with a clean lint free cloth or dry roller to remove excess oil from the surface. Allow finish to dry 8-10 hours before light use. If a topcoat such as a polyurethane or spar urethane is desired, allow Watco Teak Oil Finish to dry 72 hours before applying. To protect your finished project, use Varathane Interior Polyurethane or Exterior Spar Urethane to protect your finished project.

MAINTENANCE

Periodically reapply Watco Teak Oil Finish to wood that appears dry to restore the effectiveness of the finish.
