Varathane Fast Dry Wood Stain seals wood pores and dries fast in one hour. Varathane Premium Fast Dry Wood Stain is recommended for all interior wood projects such as furniture, cabinets, doors and trim, floors and paneling. It is not recommended for exterior wood such as floors, decks or siding.

PRODUCT APPLICATION

SURFACE PREPARATION

Remove any existing finishes with sandpaper or paint stripper. Prepare bare wood for staining by sanding in the direction of the grain. Begin with #120 grit sandpaper and progress though #150 and #180 grits. Before staining, remove all sanding dust and dirt with a vacuum and grease or glue with a clean rag dampened with mineral spirits

TESTING COLOR

Be sure to test your stain to verify the desired color. To test, apply the stain in an inconspicuous area.

STAIN APPLICATION

Apply when temperatures are between 60-90°F (16-32°C) and the relative humidity is below 85%. Allow longer dry times for damp, humid days. Use adequate ventilation at all times. Use full strength. Do not dilute. Stir or shake the container thoroughly before and occasionally during use.

Apply a test sample on a small inconspicuous area before proceeding with the entire job. Apply one coat of stain liberally with a good-quality brush or clean lint-free rag. Allow to penetrate for 2-3 minutes then remove excess by wiping with a rag in the direction of the grain. Removal of all excess material is essential to ensure proper dry time and proper adhesion of topcoat.

DRY TIME

Dry times are based on 70°F and 50% relative humidity. Dry times may be affected by temperature, humidity, and ventilation. Allow more time at cooler temperatures. Fast Dry Stain dries to the touch in approximately 1 hour and can be recoated in 1 hour. Allow 24 hours for full cure.

PROTECTING THE WOOD

To provide long-term protection and durability, the project should be top coated with Varathane Polyurethane. Polyurethane can be applied within 1 hour of applying the stain. Darker colors may require a slightly longer dry time.

CLEANUP

Clean application tools and equipment with mineral spirits.
