DESCRIPTION AND USES
Varathane Triple Thick Polyurethane is 3X thicker than a traditional polyurethane. It is an advanced self leveling formula that allows projects to be completed in one coat. This water-based formula provides excellent scratch and stain resistance and features a soft amber hue. It also provides fast dry times as well as the convenience of soap and water clean-up. It is suitable for use on all interior wood surfaces including furniture, doors, trim and more. This product is not recommended for outdoor surfaces or floors.
PRODUCT APPLICATION
REFURBISHING
Existing finished wood may be refurbished without complete removal of the previous coating. After using furniture polishes for many years, wood can absorb contaminants that interfere with Varathane Triple Thick Polyurethane. The surface must be free from wax, silicones, oils, or other contaminants. Thoroughly clean and sand the wood before applying Varathane Triple Thick Polyurethane.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Surface must be clean, dry, and free from wax, grease, dust, and other contaminants. Sand area smooth, progressing with sandpaper from 120 to 220 grit. Vacuum the surface to remove dust. Wipe surface with a clean, lint-free cloth.
STAINING
For best results, use Varathane Wood Stains prior to using Varathane Triple Thick Polyurethane. For other stains, follow the stain manufacturer’s recommendations for dry times. Apply Varathane Triple Thick Polyurethane directly over cured stains. Test a sample for product compatibility.
APPLICATION
Stir before using or if product has been sitting longer than one hour. Do not shake. Use adequate ventilation at all times. Apply only when air (ambient) temperature is between 60-90°F (16-32°C) and relative humidity is below 85%. Apply using a high-quality synthetic bristle brush. Apply in the direction of the wood grain in one, thick smooth uniform coat. If refinishing a previously coated surface or a second coat is desired, sand with 220 grit sandpaper.
DRY TIME
Dry times are based on 70°F and 50% relative humidity. Dry times may be affected by temperature, humidity, and ventilation. Allow more time at cooler temperatures. Triple Thick Polyurethane will be dry to touch in approximately 2 hours and can be recoated in 2 hours. Allow 48 hours before light use of the project. Allow 7 days for full cure.
