Rust-Oleum Low Odor Primer Spray

  • Updated

Rust-Oleum Low Odor Primer is a water-based formulation designed to minimize odor while spraying. It can be used on wood, metal, most plastics, wicker and more. The low odor formula provides a long-lasting durable finish, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor projects. Use of primers promotes topcoat adhesion and helps prevent chipping, cracking and peeling.

Rust-Oleum’s comfort tip reduces finger fatigue, while the fan spray pattern provides greater control to minimize runs and drips. The spray anyway system allows for spraying at any angle, even upside down.

TIP: Some plastics made of polyethylene such as plastic storage containers are manufactured in a way that may hinder maximum paint adhesion. Test paint in a hidden area first.

PRODUCT APPLICATION

SURFACE PREPARATION

Remove all dirt, grease, oil, salt and chemical contaminants by washing the surface with a commercial detergent, or other suitable cleaning method. Rinse with fresh water and allow to thoroughly dry. Remove loose paint and rust with a wire brush or sandpaper. Previously coated surfaces must be sound and in good condition. Smooth, hard, or glossy finishes should be scarified by sanding to create a surface profile.

APPLICATION

Use outdoors or in a well-ventilated area such as an open garage. Use when temperature is between 50°F (10°C) and 90°F (32°C) and humidity is below 65% to ensure proper drying. Do not apply to surfaces that, when heated, exceed 200°F (93°C) or galvanized metal. Avoid spraying in very windy, dusty conditions. Cover surrounding area to protect from spray mist.

Shake can vigorously for one minute after mixing ball begins to rattle. If mixing ball fails to rattle, DO NOT STRIKE CAN. Contact Rust-Oleum. Shake often during use. Hold can upright 10-16" from surface and spray in a steady back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Keep the can the same distance from the surface. Keep the can in motion while spraying. Apply 2 or more light coats a few minutes apart.

DRY AND RECOAT TIMES

Based on 70°F – 50% relative humidity. Allow more time at cooler temperatures. Dries to the touch in one hour, to handle in 2-4 hours and fully dry in 24 hours. Apply a second coat at any time. Paint can be applied over primer after 2 hours.

NOTE On plastic maximum paint adhesion and durability is achieved in 5-7 days.

CLEAN UP

Wipe off tip before storing. Clean up wet paint with soap and water

CLOGGING

If valve clogs, twist and pull off spray tip and rinse it in a warm soapy water. Do not stick pin or other object into the stem.
