DESCRIPTION AND USES

Watco Tung Oil Finish Spray will quickly and easily restore and enhance the natural color and warmth of wood in only a few simple steps. Tung Oil Finish deeply penetrates into the surface of stained and unfinished wood to protect from moisture and provide the look of a genuine hand-rubbed finish.

The Watco fast drying, ready-to-use formula will not darken over time and can be re-applied as needed to bring back the luster and refresh the character of interior wood furniture, trim, molding and more.

Tung Oil Finish contains tung oil, solvents and other ingredients designed to enhance product performance.

Not Recommended For: Floors or exterior surfaces.

PRODUCT APPLICATION

SURFACE PREPARATION

For best results, surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of old finishes, dust, dirt, oils, or foreign matter. Sand using #150-#220 grit sandpaper and remove all sanding dust using a rag dampened with mineral spirits, or vacuum. If a filler or putty is used, make sure that it does not contain wax and allow enough time to dry thoroughly.

APPLICATION

Protect surrounding areas with a solvent resistant drop cloth covered in newspaper around the work area in case of drips, runs, and/or overspray. Protect eyes and skin, wear safety goggles and chemical resistant gloves.

Use adequate ventilation at all times. Apply only when the air and surface temperatures are above 50°F, and below 95°F. Slower dry times may result from applications on redwood, cedar, or woods with a high tannin and oil content or periods of high humidity and/or low temperatures. Test Watco Tung Oil Finish in an inconspicuous area for color before completing project.

Shake can vigorously for one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. If mixing ball fails to rattle, DO NOT STRIKE CAN. Contact Rust-Oleum. Shake often during use. Hold the can 10”-16” from the surface and spray in a steady back and forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Keep the can the same distance from the surface. Keep the can in motion while spraying. Apply one coat ensuring you flood the surface with Watco Tung Oil Finish. Apply additional finish to areas that absorb all the liquid. Allow oil to penetrate for 15 minutes then buff the surface to remove all excess Tung Oil Finish from the surface with a clean, lint-free cloth.

NOTE: Sagging and spray finish imperfections are temporary and not final. Excess Tung Oil Finish will be wiped away during the final step to ensure a smooth and even finish.

After 24 hours of dry time, apply a second coat and allow to penetrate the surface for 5-10 minutes before buffing excess finish with a clean, lint-free cloth. Two coats are recommended for best appearance. Gloss level will increase with additional coats. Allow wood to completely dry for 24 hours before using.

If a topcoat finish is desired, allow Watco Tung Oil Finish to dry 72 hours before applying. If applying a topcoat, use an oil-based product such as Varathane® Interior Polyurethane.

MAINTENANCE

Periodically reapply Watco Tung Oil Finish to wood that appears dry to restore the beauty and effectiveness of the finish.
