DESCRIPTION AND USES
Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer is a water-based film forming product that chemically converts rust into a smooth, paintable surface, so there is no need to sand to bare metal. Products are available in both spray and brush for flexibility in application.
PRODUCT APPLICATION
PAINTING CONDITIONS
Use outdoors or in a well ventilated area such as an open garage. Apply when temperature is between 50-90°F (10- 32°C) and humidity is below 65% to ensure proper drying. Do not apply to surfaces, when heated, exceed 200°F (93°C). Do not apply to galvanized steel. Avoid spraying in very windy and dusty conditions. Cover surrounding area to protect from spray mist.
SURFACE PREPARATION
Do not use on non-rusted surfaces. Remove all dirt, grease, oil, salt and chemical contaminants by washing the surface with a commercial detergent, or other suitable cleaning method. Rinse with fresh water and allow to thoroughly dry. Scrape and wire brush or power tool clean to remove loose rust, scale, and deteriorated coatings.
APPLICATION
Stir contents before using. Pour a small amount of Rust Reformer into a separate non-metallic container. Brush the material evenly across the surface to be coated. The Rust Reformer will dry to a black film in about 15 minutes. Do not return any unused Rust Reformer to the original container. Doing so will contaminate the remaining material and reduce or eliminate its effectiveness.
DRY & RECOAT
Dry and recoat times are based on 70°F and 50% relative humidity. Allow more time at cooler temperatures. Dries to the touch in 20-40 minutes, to handle in 1 hour and can be top coated in 3 hours with an oil-based paint. Allow 3 days before top coating with a lacquer or aerosol.
CLEAN-UP
Spills should be cleaned up immediately with water. Clean brushes and tools with soap and water.
