DESCRIPTION AND USES

Rust-Oleum Automotive Enamel provides a long-lasting protective barrier that seals out moisture and prevents rust and corrosion. Its durable formula can be applied over bare and primed metal surfaces for a smooth gloss finish. Ideal for use on autos, trailers, RVs and auto accessories.

PRODUCT APPLICATION

SURFACE PREPARATION

Remove loose paint and rust with a wire brush or sandpaper. Lightly sand glossy surfaces. For best results, dry or wet sand with 400-grit sandpaper to feather adjacent paint surface and prepare metal. Clean area to be painted with Rust-Oleum Mineral Spirits to remove all oil, grease, wax and dirt. Dry thoroughly.

PRIMING

Use of a Rust-Oleum Primer provides added corrosion protection on metal and promotes adhesion and hiding. A primer is especially recommended for heavily rusted or pitted surfaces. Recommended primers include 249321 Primer Sealer and any of the sandable primers (249419 Red, 252472 Light Gray, or 249415 Gray).

APPLICATION

Use outdoors or in a well ventilated area such as an open garage. Use when temperature is between 50°F (10°C) and 90°F (32°C) and humidity is below 65% to ensure proper drying. Do not apply to surfaces, when heated, exceed 200°F (93°C). Avoid spraying in very windy and dusty conditions. Cover surrounding area to protect from spray mist.

Shake can vigorously for one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. If mixing ball fails to rattle DO NOT STRIKE CAN. Contact Rust-Oleum. Shake often during use. Hold can upright 10-16" from surface and spray in a steady back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Keep the can in motion while spraying. Apply 2 or more light coats a few minutes apart. Apply multiple coats versus applying one heavy coat. Do not use near open flame.

DRY & RECOAT

Dry and recoat times are based on 70°F and 50% relative humidity. Allow more time at cooler temperatures. Dries to touch in 15 minutes and to handle in 1-2 hours. Surface can be recoated within 1 hour or after 48 hours. If recoating after 48 hours, repeat the surface preparation steps. Light wet sanding with 600 grit sandpaper is recommended. The freshly coated surface can be buffed with wax or polish after one week.

CLEAN-UP

When finished spraying, clear spray valve by turning can upside down and depressing spray button for 3-5 seconds (some paint will be sprayed out, so be careful to not inadvertently spray yourself or other objects). Clean-up wet paint with xylene or mineral spirits. Properly discard empty container. Do not burn or place in home trash compactor.

CLOGGING

If the valve clogs, twist and pull off spray tip and rinse in a solvent such as mineral spirits. Do not insert any object into can valve opening.
